Elastic couplings are among the most common flexible couplings. This type of coupling is also referred to as a claw coupling, as the force is transmitted through two interlocking claws.

This type of coupling is made up of two coupling halves with internal claws and a flexible sprocket in between the two.
In some models, the flexible element consists of several rubber buffers that fill the space between the claws; they are also available as a complete set in this form.

The coupling halves are usually made from aluminium or steel and are available in both pre-drilled and clamping bush variants. The flexible sprocket is made from PU or rubber as standard and is available in various degrees of hardness (specified in Shore), with each one indicating its individual temperature range. Each degree of hardness is identified by a different colour, so that choosing the required sprocket is quick and easy during replacement.

Elastic couplings are maintenance-free, impact-resistant and rupture-proof. They can also compensate for smaller alignment errors (angle, parallel or axial errors).

Current standards for shaft couplings are DIN 740, DIN 115 and DIN 116.
