In addition to the standard pre-drilled design (disc wheel) and the clamping bush variant, sprockets that already have a bore hole, key way and threaded hole are also available. These are reinforced simplex sprockets with a bore hole tolerance of H7.

Here is an example of a description for this type of sprocket:
Sprocket 06B-1 Z=10 bore hole 10H7++ reinforced.
In other words, this is a simplex sprocket with a pitch of ½" (12.7 mm) and ten teeth. The wheel has a 10H7 clearance hole, whereby the marking "++" indicates that the wheel features both the bore and key way with a threaded hole.

Sprocket and sprocket assemblies come in both standard and customised versions.

Choosing a specific design or quality largely depends on the application and the environmental conditions. If the drive needs to fulfil conveying purposes, the type and weight of the product being conveyed are also a key factor. For environments in which the drive is exposed to moisture, sprockets can have a special surface treatment and can be supplied in stainless steel or plastic.

Chain drives are primarily used in the foodstuffs and drug industries, in the agricultural and forestry sector, in the fishing industry, in mechanical engineering and in naval applications.

Important standards for chain drives: ISO 1977, ISO 606, ISO 1275, DIN 8167, DIN 8181, DIN 8188, DIN 8187 and BS 228.
