Mechanical seals are specific seals that you find on rotating equipment such as pumps and mixers. The mechanical seal prevents the medium (liquid or gas) from escaping at the shaft.
The mechanical seal consists of two components. The stator or mating ring that sits permanently in the lid of the pump. The rotor turns against this, driven by the shaft and pressed down by one or more springs. There is a wide range of mechanical seals, from the simple component seal, or single spring, to extremely complex cartridge seals. The design, choice of the materials and construction of the seal are determined by many factors. We take the pressure, temperature, rotational speed and of course the product to be sealed into account.
