Platinum cured silicone tubing is non-yellowing and has a clearer appearance than peroxide cured silicone. It is preferred by the medical/pharmaceutical, food and beverage industries (MRO and OEM) due to its transparency and lack of peroxide by-products.
It is the best possible solution for OEM coffee machine producers and other beverages installations.
For medical/pharmaceutical usage, platinum cured silicone provides excellent biocompatibility and chemical inertness to maintain the purity of sensitive fluids. In comparison to peroxide cured silicone, platinum cured silicone has no significant change in physical properties during or after autoclave sterilization.
Peroxide cured silicone is also less used because of environmental issues. During the curing, small amounts of tetrachlorobiphenyl (PCB’s) are released in the extraction of the fumes. A lot of manufacturers changed their silicone compounds to platinum cured.
